What is the gothic?

The gothic is a way of thinking that led to specific styles of literature as well as architecture during the 16th century and is still even present in modern times. The style focuses the aspects of terror, creepiness and nervousness through being mysterious as well as surprising. The movement became popular throughout Europe, especially with women. It gave women as well as men a method to explore themselves in ways that was normally frowned upon.
